Hello, Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my volunteer donation page here at Project Woo (Waves Of Optimism). I was introduced to this wonderful non-profit organization over the winter and have quickly fell in love with its ideals and desires to promote conscientious travel and community development in Nicaragua. After a meeting with a couple of the guys that put this organization together, namely Bo and Trent, I was positive that I had to do all I could to help out. Theirs is a cause that is very important to me on a personal level as a traveler, a surfer, and a person seeking to use the resources I so gratefully have to help others. Luckily for me, Project Woo was more than happy to indulge my desire to help; and I will be leaving in July to travel to Gigante, Nicaragua where I will be living for 3 months as a volunteer! I expect this experience to be challenging and extremely rewarding. While there I will be living with the people of this small seaside fishing community in the home of a gracious host family; sharing their home, their warmth, and their life. During the day I will be doing my best to help the people of Gigante by teaching English to the grade school children and basic computers to the adults and local businesses. I will also be working on a variety of other projects that the community has come up with which are facilitated by Project Woo to promote the betterment of life in Gigante.  By letting the town take the lead in its own development and merely being a facilitator; Project Woo is taking a different approach to traditional non-profit efforts and its success has shown. Their community led school bus project has increased high school attendance by 80%. By giving the children reliable transportation, they no longer have to walk the 20km to and from school. Needless to say this bus and the education it helps to provide already has had a dramatic effect on the opportunities given to the youth for a brighter future. I urge you to check out this website, especially the About Woo section, to see the many other ways that Project Woo is using donations and volunteers like me to help promote sustainable community development. My hope for you is that you join me in my effort and do what you can to be a part of this project by helping me raise money for the efforts of Project Woo and for the people of Gigante (click on the donate button below!). Thank You, Jesse Bradford
