This is a wish list put together by the teachers and community members of the primary school in Gigante. All materials can be brought as in-kind donations and/or organized as volunteer activities. Some materials on the list would be difficult to bring down. If something touches you, but would be hard to fit on the plane, contact us and we can find it here in country. All materials would be put to good use and will directly benefit the students of Gigante and the community at large.
  • All school supplies:
    • Compasses, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, etc… (dry erase pens high in demand for white boards), notebooks, folders, calculators, and everything else I’m forgetting about…..
    • Educational text books (a tricky one. Spanish is best, but certain English texts could be useful. Ones that can help establish curriculum for long-term volunteers (English, gardening/composting, family planning, etc…)
  • Maps, atlases, globes, and all geography related material that can be used in the classroom (Spanish preferred but English works great too!)
    • World maps, political maps (of Central America, South America, Nicaragua, etc…)

    • This is huge! The school (inside and out, signs, fence, plaza, etc…) always needs paint and this is the perfect community wide project! You supply the paint and we’ll bring the community. You can bring down paint or organize to fund the painting and we’ll do the groundwork!
  • Sand paper and varnish for school desk reparation
  • 6 Steal doors for the primary and preschool
  • Library (fund it, build it, sign it. Let’s paint our handprints all over it. Water it like a seed and lets watch it grow!)

  • Photocopy machine
  • Plants, trees, grass, flowers for school beautification
